2/23/1836 The Battle of the Alamo begins. During the Texas Revoution, a Mexican Army force of about 1,500 soldiers under President General Antonio López de Santa Anna, surrounded a group of approximately 200 Americans at the Alamo, San Antonio, Texas. The Texans and others defending the Alamo Mission refused to surrender and after a 13 day siege by the Mexicans, the attack began.

All but two of the Alamo’s defenders were killed, and the battle served as an inspiration for many Americans to join the Texian Army, seeking revenge. Eventually, they defeated Santa Anna’s army.
