The Hook Book App: Your “Black Book” for the Digital Age
We came across these guys on Twitter who created a phone app that is essentially your ”black book” of the digital age. Yes, THAT “black book.” We asked the app’s creators to write us a little background piece on how the hell they came up with this crazy idea and what type of functionality it offers. It’s a pretty wild concept and no mater what stage of life that you’re in, it’s sure to give you a laugh. Men, let me be the first to introduce you to… the Hook Book App.
It’s no secret that as we get older, our priorities change in life. Thankfully, I no longer play with my Tamagotchi, watch Full House (ok, maybe on occasion), or listen to Coolio. However, there has been one constant that has stayed with me from my days in middle school reading Goosebumps, to my high school years jammin’ “The Thong Song”, through my college years and that “hippie” phase, to what is now my young professional life. We guys like talking about hooking up with girls, and we love the competitive spirit of it all.
In middle school, there would always be chatter of who made out with the hottest girl at the school dance, or who talked to a girl on the phone for the longest time. In high school, we all know it was about who got laid first, and then in college, it was all about who got laid the most. The previous night’s benders would be followed by guys sitting around brunch (is 2 PM still considered brunch?) talking about the exploits from the night before. Who did you hook up with? Where did you hook up with them? And what did you do? I think we all would have loved and benefited from some system that tracked this constant competition and the achievements made by everyone in the crew.
Welcome to 2011 and version 1.3 of Hook Book. Hook Book is a little black book for the digital age, allowing its users to keep track of every little detail in their personal dating and hook up life, and version 1.3 allows the competitive spirit of hooking up to be unleashed with the new Badges feature. Hook Book’s badges are similar to the Foursquare system of badges, but wouldn’t you rather brag to your boys about earning the Cougar Hunter badge (5 hooks who are 10 years older than you) than the Photogenic badge (check-in 3 places with a photobooth… La di frickin’ da)? Now, when you’re gathered around a table full of greasy goodness, and an argument arises about what happened 2 months ago, you can proudly proclaim with accuracy what happened, when it happened, and if you’re lucky, what badge you earned because of your salacious studliness.
Another pretty great feature releasing with version 1.3 is the suggested import feature. Every time you open the app, it will ask you if you would like to import any contact you have previously added to your native Contacts app. Got that girl’s number last night but can’t remember her name? Do you not even remember if you got any numbers the night before? Open Hook Book and it will let you know right away whose number you scored.
Now there are two more ways Hook Book is changing the game and elevating yours.
