I would like to start this post off with our sincerest apologies. After a long look through the site yesterday evening, I realized that there is not one mention of Sylvester Stallone on the site. I know! We have been wrapped up so much in starting a revolution that we forgot the little things that matter like great 80′s arm wrestling action flicks. Oh yes! I am talking about “Over the Top”. In this week’s Manly Movies, we are going to review Over the Top. This has to be honestly one of the best named titles of all time. The entire movie, frankly, is OVER THE TOP.

Plot: Hawk (Slyvester Stallone) picks up his estranged son at the behest of his dying mother. The grandfather on the mother’s side is a bit of douche. Right off the bat, Hawk defeats “Smasher” in an arm wrestling match. His son at first is uptight but eventually after a few arm wrestling matches and an 80′s workout scene they truly become father and son. The movie ends with Hawk going to the Arm Wrestling Finals and beats Bob “Bull” Hurley to winthe National Championship. The End.

Summary: First off, the kid in this film sucks. The entire movie is complain, complain, complain. Then when he finally starts realizing that Hawk is awesome he then just causes more problems. If it was not for the acting prowess of Stallone and the supporting cast, this kid would ruin the movie for me. What is great about the film is the names of his opponents like Smasher, Big Boy, Bull, and Grizzley. You know Stallone was just sitting by and said, “You know what? These are the names that will make the movie.” It’s great that he has the ability to create a cult classic and pun driven title whenever he wants. Oh, and to make it OVER THE TOP, Hawk drives a Brut semi-truck. No shit, I am serious!
